Online Immigration Status Home Office eVisa System Now Open to All
The Home Office eVisa system is now officially open to all visa holders with eligible immigration documents including:
Biometric residence card (BRC)
Status under the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS) or an EUSS decision letter
Biometric residence permit (BRP)
Frontier Worker permit
To register for your eVisa and UKVI account, please visit the Home Office website and follow the instructions.
You will need to apply for a BRP before you can access an eVisa if you have indefinite leave to remain (ILR) or enter and:
you have a vignette sticker in your non-UK passport
you have a wet ink stamp in your non-UK passport
you have a form for affixing a visa (FAV)
you do not have or were never given an immigration document
If you have a Certificate of Entitlement to Right of Abode (normally a vignette sticker in your non-UK passport) will not have to apply for eVisa and can continue to rely on the vignette sticker.
We would recommend setting up your account as soon as possible. As one might have come to expect with anything related to the Home Office’s IT systems, we have had clients who reported that their UKVI account was linked to their previous expired visa instead of their current ILR status (which appears to be a common problem if one does an online search for the term “eVisa wrong status”), and media reports of people having their visa details incorrectly linked with someone else’s data. These issues will take time (sometime up to months) for the Home Office to resolve and if you are due to travel soon, you may face difficulties with boarding your flights if airlines are unable to verify your visa status. In any event, even if you have successfully linked your visa to your UKVI account, we would still recommend that you have with you a printout of your visa status prior to traveling just in case you are not able to access your account during your travels.
We will be happy to assist if you have any questions about the eVisa or is concerned about your immigration status, so do get in touch.
