Chi Wai Lu – Partner

During 28 years of practice, Chi Wai has developed strong relationships and an exceptional knowledge of UK commercial and property law.

Chi Wai is highly regarded for his understanding of clients’ unique financial and cultural demands, and an ability to help overseas clients to adapt their legal requirements to the UK, while his fluency in English, Mandarin and Cantonese ensures an efficient level of service for all his clients. Many of Chi Wai’s clients, corporate and individuals, have gone on to establish successful UK businesses. 

Chi Wai is a member of Property Section of Law Society, Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association, Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants and Hong Kong Law Society.

Mei Lu – Partner

Founding Partner Mei Lu is renowned for her pragmatic yet professional approach, which has won many repeated clients and their trust. Her early career begins as a reporter for the press and television followed by experience working in an investment bank in London, before reading Law and completing the Legal Practical Course at BPP Law School.

Mei Lu excels in explaining complex and complicated legal concepts and requirements, she is particularly valued by the firm’s Chinese clients for her ability to clearly communicate procedures in their own language, making legal processes more efficient and effective whilst offering peace of mind together with problem-solving solutions.

Mei Lu also spends much of her time on managing the risk control for the firm by putting in place the robust risk management system and cultivating an environment where colleagues are able to learn well in actual practising so as to equip themselves with legal brains.

James Lau – Partner

James joined Lu Oliphant as a law trainee, staying with the firm upon qualifying in 2009, and has since become a Partner.

Born and educated in London, James studied War Studies and Philosophy at King’s College London before attending the College of Law; a natural choice given that several family members before him have practiced in law.

James focuses on commercial and residential conveyancing – both freehold and leasehold – for investors, companies, entrepreneurs and private individuals, and acts for both landlords and tenants. He is also experienced in employment, civil litigation, immigration, corporate and financial law.

Anna Wu – Lawyer

Originally from Hong Kong, Anna qualified in New Zealand, where she practiced in commercial firms for a number of years.

Anna graduated from the University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Film, Television and Media Studies (LLB/BA), choosing to relocate to the UK in order to further her experience of professional practice.

At Lu Oliphant, Anna’s focus is on property and commercial law. Her ability to work in Cantonese and Mandarin, as well as English, enables her to communicate with our overseas clients in a manner that is both reassuringly familiar and efficient.

Eugenie Chua – Lawyer

Eugenie is an Australian qualified lawyer who completed her BA/LLB double degree at the University of Melbourne and Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice at Monash University, Australia. 

After working a number of years as a solicitor in Melbourne, Eugenie took a career break to pursue her interest in psychology, obtaining an MSc in Neuropsychology at the UK’s University of Bristol before returning to law.

With a background in immigration law, government law and litigation, Eugenie has experience working in commercial firms as well as government departments in England and Australia. Eugenie now works on matters including immigration, civil litigation and residential conveyancing. Eugenie is fluent in English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Teochew.

Nicholas Woo – Solicitor

Nicholas came from a background in Toronto, New York, Hong Kong and London, bringing a distinctly international personality and approach to his work.  

He completed his LLB at London’s Brunel University, and his LLM-LPC at the University of Law (Moorgate). He was admitted to the New York State Bar as an Attorney-at-Law in 2018, and qualified as a Solicitor in England & Wales in 2021.

Nicholas has valuable experience in Property matters and deals with a variety of work across the real estate spectrum. He also acts in relation to Private Client work with Wills, Probate and Lasting Powers of Attorneys, and various forms of Corporate work.

Ernest Ng – Solicitor

Ernest was born and raised in Hong Kong. He obtained Bachelor of Laws and Postgraduate Certificate in Laws from the University of Hong Kong in 2008 and 2009 respectively. He was called to Bar in Hong Kong in 2010.

While practising as a barrister in Hong Kong, he conducted civil and criminal trials, applications and appeals from the Magistracy Courts to the Court of Appeal in Hong Kong. He also advised clients regularly on various legal issues, including property, business, probate and general civil and criminal matters.

He was admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2022 and joined the team. He mainly works alongside with senior partners on civil litigation, property transactions and immigration matters.

Ernest speaks fluent English, Cantonese and Mandarin enabling him to provide tailored client care to a variety of Chinese clients to their specific needs and better understanding.
